Blinded by ease we fall away
To a moment past, to a place someday
The thoughts of giving up come too easy and never stray
When things get tough, and tough they will be, why walk away?
When we sit down, we unconsciously never – can’t – stand
Why give it up, why waste it all if we know we can?
Dear bird upon the window sill whom awakens me today
With a quirky chirp and a flutter of feathers; proud to display
A clip in your wing from disaster unknown
But yet you still sing and to the world you are shown
How do you stay happy when the neighbour’s cat is next door?
Or knowing that just above you an eagle may soar
Which may tear you apart and cast you asunder
Waiting with baited breath for a careless blunder
How do you awaken with a chirp from your beak?
What is this secret you possess, come, speak!
Is it love, is it laughter? Is it a smile, is it thee?
You are warm and free, is this the secret you keep from me?
Or do we even need a reason to be happy with delight?
We have so much to love for; each dawn and in twilight.
But not everyone has someone to live for
Not everyone has someone who cares
Mother’s wail for children whom will never be born
And fathers grow old with no sons to share.
Do we not care if there is a plight?
Another war, another fight, perhaps another day or another night
Well how about now before they suffer anymore?
How about now before tears make hearts sore
How about yesterday before this disaster began
Can we truly, unequivocally, help? Yes we can
